508-538-4825 8am to 10pm, seven days

Beat the summer heat or the winter chill. I show up for both.

Careful work and straight answers, for people who check before they spend.

I fix furnaces, AC, heat pumps and hot water heaters across the South Shore and beyond.

Most of the time it can be fixed. Sometimes it can’t, and I’ll tell you that too.

No heat? No AC? Call me.

Hans, who owns and runs Vital Air Boston

I’m Hans. This is my company.

I own Vital Air Boston and I do the work myself. You’re not going through a dispatcher, and you’re not waiting on a callback from an office. You call, you get me.

Licensed and insured. One year on my labor, five years on the system. And I check back after a job to make sure it’s still running right.

What happens when you call

Already been told you need a new system?

Get a second opinion first. Other companies had already been to one house I went to, and every one of them was pointing the homeowner at a whole new system. It didn’t need one.

I come out, look at it, and tell you what I find. If replacing it really is the right call, I’ll say so, and I’ll show you why.

Two past jobs that explain how I work

The system he didn’t need to replace

Other companies had already been to the house, and every one of them was steering the homeowner toward a whole new system. I looked at it, fixed one section, found a second problem, and fixed that too. The system ran. He didn’t need a new unit and nobody had told him that.

The port they never opened

A company installed a system and never came back to commission it. The port was never opened, so the system had never actually run. The homeowner called me. I opened the port. It worked.

That’s most of what a second opinion is. Somebody looking at it who isn’t trying to sell you a system.

Before winter, and before summer

Massachusetts makes you run two systems a year, and each one sits idle for months before you need it. The point of a service visit is simple. I find the worn part in October. Not you, at six in the morning, on a twenty degree night.

On the heating side

I clean the burners and the flame sensor. A dirty flame sensor is one of the most common reasons a furnace lights, then shuts right back off. I check the venting, which is a safety check, not a comfort one. I look at the blower and the capacitor, because that is usually what is about to go. And I change the filter, because a clogged one makes the whole system work harder than it was built to.

On the cooling side

The condensate pan and the drain line are where things actually grow. Slime builds up over a season and the line clogs. Then the water that should go down the drain goes into your ceiling or your floor instead. I clear it. I clean the coil so the system can move air. And I pull the cottonwood, grass and pollen out of the outdoor unit. That is what it collected all summer.

Tankless hot water heaters

Hard water leaves scale inside the heat exchanger. Left alone it cuts your hot water and shortens the life of the unit. Flushing it is a yearly job.

A worn part found on a service visit is a cheap part. The same part found on the first cold night costs a lot more, and sometimes it takes the whole system with it.

If it’s out right now, call me.

I answer my own phone. Eight to ten, seven days. Tell me what it’s doing and I’ll tell you what I think before I come out.
